What this policy covers. This policy applies to backstop.ca, our public website. If you are a BACKSTOP customer, data you and your team put into the platform is governed by your customer agreement, which takes precedence for that data.
Cookie use
We set only essential cookies. These are placed by Cloudflare, our hosting and security provider, to deliver the site and protect it against automated abuse. They are required for the website to work.
We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this policy first, and those cookies will be set only after you consent through our cookie banner. You will be able to change or withdraw that consent at any time through the cookie banner shown when you first visit.
What we collect
When you interact with our website, we may collect:
- Basic technical details such as browser type, IP address and session duration — processed by Cloudflare to deliver and secure the site
- Information you submit through a form or a meeting booking, such as your name, email and company
Why we collect it
- To keep the website available, performing well, and protected against abuse
- To respond to you when you get in touch or book a meeting
Who we share it with
We do not sell or trade your personal data. Ever. Full stop.
We do rely on a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purposes described above:
- Cloudflare — website hosting, content delivery and security
- Calendly — meeting scheduling
- HubSpot — customer relationship management, where we hold contact records for people who get in touch with us
We do not currently use a website analytics provider. This list is complete and current as of the date at the top of this page.
How long we keep it
- Form and meeting-booking submissions: 24 months after our last contact with you
- Your cookie consent choice: 12 months
- Website traffic and security logs: held by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule
- Analytics data: none is collected. If we introduce analytics, it will be retained for no more than 14 months
Where your data is held
This website is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare. Cloudflare operates a global network, so website traffic — including your IP address — may be processed at locations outside Canada as part of delivering and securing the site. Cloudflare is contractually committed to GDPR-standard protections and is verified against the EU Cloud Code of Conduct.
The BACKSTOP platform, where customer data lives, is separate from this website. It runs on Microsoft Azure in the Canada Central region, and all customer data is housed in Canada. Platform security controls — access, authentication, encryption, backup, monitoring and incident response — are set out in our Platform Security Policy, available on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request that we correct or delete your information
- Change or withdraw your cookie preferences at any time
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
- Complain to your privacy regulator — in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Our regulatory posture
We build our privacy practices around PIPEDA, Canada's federal private-sector privacy law, and we align with the principles of the GDPR and the CCPA where they apply to visitors from those regions.
Children
This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
